Why are fee paying schools called public schools in England?
Feb 09, 7940 by extremely studious i swear | Posted in Primary & Secondary Education
In Ireland, they're called sequestered schools and the state run schools are considered to be public or community schools.
"Public School" means that a infuse with is one of a small number of old fee-paying schools, which pre-date the free state education system. They were called "public" schools because, at the leisure they were created, they were open to everyone, whereas other schools were private.
Today there are still "private" schools - which are modern fee-paying schools, without the history of public schools. Schools which are funded by the regulation are know as "state" or "maintained" schools.

Who here thinks Christianity should be aloud in public schools?
Jun 04, 2009 by musicaddict9396 | Posted in Teaching
I effective think so. I think it's stupid that they don't. The kids even get in trouble for even talking about it! I mean, it does say in the Constitution, "spare time of religion" and "freedom of speech." Ya know what I mean?
You mentioned the Constitution.
"Congress shall dream up no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the bear on; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
You cannot pick and determine. The establishment clause begins the first ammendment.. (the part that says ...*shall make no law respecting an origination of religion...*)
we cannot establish an official religion, nor favor one over another or over non-religion.
you cannot pick and choose here either.

What are some pros and cons of teaching creationism in public schools?
Apr 20, 2009 by Kyle W | Posted in Teaching
I'm doing a question and need to know pros and cons, don't just give me your biased crap. if your against it dont just say the only pros are "provides funny relief" or stupid shit like that, give me real pros and cons
There honestly aren't any pros- except it's good to compare different theories.
Cons, however, are much easier: Religious favoritism, no way to "back up" the theory, there is no enlightening value in it whatsoever (unless, I suppose, you are Christian, but for everyone else it means nothing and likely won't mean anything).
It's just best to keep it out of the public middle school system. Way too many problems can and probably will arise if it is allowed to be taught. Besides, a whole class would need to be devoted to it- it cannot be taught in science.
